Faculty Senate Spotlight Series

As a university, Georgetown is always evolving to meet the challenges and opportunities of our times. Much of the work of this evolution takes the form of “initiatives” that often emerge from the creativity and talents of our faculty, take advantage of our strengths as a university, and serve the needs of the world around us. 

It is important that our faculty have a regular opportunity to learn about this emerging work. To that end, the Faculty Senate is hosting a University Initiatives Spotlight Series. Each Spotlight focuses one or more University initiatives, in an effort to inform the community, and gather ideas for helping the implementation and success of the initiatives.

Over the next semesters, we will be providing sessions related to the Racial Justice Institute, the Health Sciences Strategy Initiative, the Emergent Ethics Network, and others.

Each session will occur via Zoom, and the recordings will be posted here. We hope this will be a valuable resource to you all. Please direct any suggestions or inquires to facultysenate@georgetown.edu.

Soyica Colbert and Naomi Mezey, Co-Chairs of the Gender Equity Committee, who offered an overview of the Committee’s work to date, including the priorities in the latest annual report, an update on the newly named Associate Vice President for Gender Equity, and forecasting of work ahead.

December 4, 2023

• Spotlight featuring Profs. Soyica Colbert and Naomi Mezey, Co-Chairs of the Gender Equity Committee. Profs. Colbert and Mezey describe the evolution of the work from a Task Force to a Standing Committee, the committee’s charge and cadence, and key recommendations that have been implemented or are in progress. They close by inviting ongoing input through the Faculty Senate.
